Crazyhound's Character Smash Development Update 18 July

This is just a brief development update on the project to explain where it is at the moment and what I need to do to finish it off.

At the moment, the latest mechanic addition to the game is a shop mechanic that will allow a player to purchase upgrades and refills of health and ammo.  The majority of the upgrades have also been coded, and work, allowing for some customisation of gameplay.

Each upgrade has a level attribute that affects how much impact each upgrade and upgrade level has in the game.  Once you purchase an upgrade, the cost of the upgrade increases according to the upgrade level.  And if you do not have enough "Coins" for an upgrade, the purchase button becomes disabled.

Tasks to Complete

While progress has been a little slow the last week or so, I am still working towards the initial (self imposed) deadline of the end of July or early August.  The list of tasks to completion I currently have planned are:

  • Implement an explosive mechanic as an upgrade - This is currently in development, however I am finding the graphical element a bit awkward at the moment.  If I'm unable to make it work the way I want right now, it might get cut until I have learned how to better implement this feature.
  • Add in Bosses and final characters - At the moment, there are a few characters that still need some finishing touches and a Boss Fight system to introduce into the game.  The Boss Fight mechanic will be based on the wave number and the Bosses will be bigger and more dangerous (but the attacks will still be limited for now).
  • Environment Design - At the moment, the play area is just a platform that the enemies spawn on for the player to kill them.  What I would like to create is an environment that uses the other assets created for my other projects that are used in "zones" within the play area to add some visual variation beyond just a flat platform.
  • Sound Design - While some sounds have been added to the game from other projects, I will need to create other sounds for actions and objects, as well as some new music to play in the background.
  • Menus and UI - I don't expect it will take long for me to sort out the remaining UI elements and Menus after making menus for other projects, but it is still work to do.

Depending on progress over the next week or two, I plan to upload an Alpha Build once the core gameplay elements are included.  If all of this work is done in the next few weeks, I will upload the completed build for people to play.
